Parce que même si les mots s'éffacent, les souvenirs restent...

Hier, j'ai reçu ce mail de ma coordinatrice. J'ai une famille :)
Dans la petite ville d'Yreka, à un trentaine de km de la frontière avec l'Oregon, dans le nord de la Californie, près des montagnes. Mes futurs parents pdt 5 mois seront Nicole et Randy Baker :D Ils ont 2 fils déjà mariés, donc je serai seule avec eux à la maison. J'irai à "Yreka Union High School", école de 600 élèves. Parfaite :D
voilà un extrait de mon mail:

"Yreka is not far from Mt. Shasta. The Mt. Shasta area normally gets quite a few snowstorms during the winter. Bring your warmest clothes for winter, but it will probably be hot when you arrive. California isn't only like LA, Hollywood and San Francisco! It's a very big state with lots of different climates, and you will be living very close to Oregon, too.. The area is more like Oregon than the rest of California. The entire area here is almost like a national park setting. It's very beautiful and has many tourists year round. When students come to California, are they aware of the Sierra Nevada mountains and the lower Cascade mountain range, with Mt. Shasta itself, at 14,179 feet in elevation? Or are they only thinking of southern California beaches? I have placed about 60 students in the area over the years and most love it here, with a few returning to visit, too, and one German girl returned 2 times.
Yreka High School is about 2 miles from your host family's house. The high school will be happy to have you and you will be like a celebrity there! There are about 600 students who attend the school. Below is the link to the school website.

Your host family is Nicole and Randy Baker. They have 2 boys who are 22 and 25 years old who are no longer at home, and who are both married. Nicole and Randy have one grandchild with another on the way. I think you will really like them. They are very friendly and active, plus they are very excited about hosting you. They chose you out of several other students (boys and girls), so please do not forget that. The Bakers enjoy water and snow skiing, hiking, tennis, golfing, biking, computers, crafts, reading, gardening, watching movies, and Nicole loves to go shopping. They both travel and plan to take you with them to such places as a ski resort at Lake Tahoe. Currently Randy is a teacher at Yreka High. He may become an administrator at another school, but nothing is definite yet."

voilà, puisque ce blog est dédié à mon séjour, je trouve normal d'y intégrer une petite déscription de la vie là-bas et de la famille, écrite par Nicole dans son premier mail.

"Randy teaches at the high school, enrollment is 600 and a great school for you to attend. Both of our boys graduated from Yreka High School and had incredible experiences with sports and friends. There are several clubs, sports and activities I'm sure you will want to get involved with. We will support you through your time with us.

The elevation in Yreka is 2600 ft., we get snow in the winter. The temperatures get below 0 degrees F, often at night in the winter time. The snows vary each year, sometimes we will have a few feet of snow several times during the winter and other times a few inches at a time. Spring and Fall are always beautiful, mild temperatures. Summers can get very hot, but the winds in the evening cool down the county.

We have very friendly neighbors, we live 2 miles from the high school. You could ride a bike if you wanted. We live on 2 acres with hiking available behind our home. You can see Mt. Shasta from the front of our house. Mt. Shasta is 14,000 ft. mountain that has a ski area on it and people come from all over to hike in the spring and summer months. I'm including pictures that I like to take from the front of our home.

Randy and I enjoy a variety of activities. We spend time with our son and family in Klamath Falls, Oregon and our two granddaughters Makynli and Sydney (1 1/2 hours away), we like to take drives to Mt. Shasta to hike and spend time in the mountains' beauty, we ride bikes, travel to Auburn, California to visit family, drive to Oregon at least twice a month to do our shopping (45 min. away), we have a boat so you can see the many wonderful lakes in our area and we love the coast with all its beauty.

Ashland, Oregon is 40 minutes away. It is known for its Shakespearean theater and its parks. It has wonderful restaurants, shopping and skiing. We like to take our granddaughters to their famous park called Lithia Park. We'll take you there.

Randy and I are 50 years old. We are very excited that you are coming to live with us and hope you have the experience of your life here in Siskiyou County. Please let us know what it is you would like to see and experience while in the states. I'm sure we will be writing often so I will close for now. I will be sending you pictures each time so you will know this place before you arrive in August"
